Our Mission: Wingspan Ministry models and manifests the gospel call to justice for GLBT persons in our congregation, our church and our world.
Wingspan Ministry is a ministry of St. Paul-Reformation Lutheran Church that offers pastoral care, education, advocacy and support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Wingspan Ministry currently consists of a coordinating committee and one working group: the Uganda Project.
The Marriage Matters Task Force has been eliminated, now that their work, in assisting with the passage of the Marriage Equality bill has been completed, following the passage of the bill by the Minnesota Legislature, and signing of the bill into law by Governor Mark Dayton.
The Uganda Project aims to support GLBT persons in Uganda by raising awareness of their plight and by raising funds to support the ministry of Bishop Christopher Senyonjo, one of the leading religious advocates for GLBT persons in Uganda. Learn more about SPR’s involvement.

The committee is in charge of the budget, quarterly Wingspan newsletters, and coordinating Wingspan’s presence at SPR events such as Rally Sunday, Reconciling in Christ Sunday, PRIDE Festival, Parade and Worship. The coordinating committee also plans and hosts two Wingspan socials each year for all people involved in Wingspan. The Coordinating Committee meets quarterly.
The Wingspan Logo gives expression to the all-embracing arms of God which welcomes and affirms all people, but especially gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons, their families and friends. The flame is a reminder of the light of justice and freedom which continually shines in places of oppression and hopelessness. We know that oppression and hopelessness is a particular experience for GLBT people and we declare a mission whose goal is that one day that oppression will cease and the hopelessness will fade away.
