"The Way" is SPR's program to welcome new members into this community as they live more fully into their baptismal identity. It is based on the early Church's learning process called the "catechumenate." Meeting for an informal meal every other week, this process considers the weekly texts, how we can journey together, and what it means to be a part of the Christian community.

Holy Baptism is entry into the Church and makes us one with the Risen Christ and members of his body; we cannot separate from Jesus nor he from us. When water is joined to the promise of God, Christians believe that "...nothing can separate us..." from the Holy Trinity. Likewise, Holy Baptism joins the newly baptized to the corporate body of God's people. We believe that in baptism, one truly dies and rises again to new life in Jesus. This promise is full of grace.
Though Lutherans typically baptize infants, baptism can happen at any time in a person's life, and we invite you to consider how God may be calling you or your child to Holy Baptism. Baptism implies a dual commitment: the commitment of the person/family to the Church, and the commitment of the Church to journey with that individual for the whole of their life. For adults, baptism can take place after an intentional period of instruction and formation called (at St. Paul-Reformation) "The Way." You can learn more about it by clicking here. Likewise, because baptism is a communal event, it happens within the community of the entire Church and is not done privately.
